The University of Milan during the Fuorisalone
The University of Milan will once again host INTERNI’s FuoriSalone exhibition-event at its premises on Via Festa del Perdono 7 and at the Brera Botanical Garden from 20 to 30 April, coinciding with Milan Design Week.
INTERNI MateriAE, the title and concept of the exhibition, features over 40 installations and was presented today at a press conference in the Aula Magna on Via Festa del Perdono.
"The Latin term materiae — chosen as the exhibition's cultural cornerstone — lends itself to a multitude of interpretations: materials, disciplines, subjects. A broad vision that reflects the complexity and interdisciplinary nature of contemporary design, exploring the technical, experimental and creative value of materials in dialogue with design, architecture, ecology, philosophy, mathematics and applied physics, as well as the behaviours associated with them: topics, disciplines, expressions", explains INTERNI magazine in its introduction to the exhibition.
Chaired by design curator Silvana Annicchiarico, the press conference opened with welcome remarks by Rector Marina Brambilla, Tommaso Sacchi, councillor for Culture at the City of Milan, and Alessia Cappello, councillor for Economic Development and Labour Policies at the City of Milan. The conference was opened by Gilda Bojardi, editor of INTERNI, who presented the theme of the exhibition.
"Cross-pollination has always been a preferred interpretative lens for Interni’s Fuorisalone," said Rector Marina Brambilla in her opening address in the Aula Magna. "This is due to the nature of the exhibition itself, but also — and allow me to reiterate this as Rector — to the decision to stage it here, at the university, in the historic Ca’ Granda: a venue that reflects a past which continues to inspire us, and through the ceaseless work carried out within it and the continuous production of knowledge, becomes a setting for imagining our future. The cross-fertilisation of different fields of knowledge has always been central to the University of Milan’s identity as a public, open and interdisciplinary institution. It is our hope that dialogue between the arts, disciplines, languages and cultures – which can act as both the driving force and the very essence of creativity, beauty and innovation – will become a model for how we live and guide the world back towards peaceful coexistence."
