From Impoverished Intelligence to Abundant Intelligences

In this keynote, Jason Edward Lewis (Concordia University, Montréal) explores how dominant AI research is shaped by narrow definitions of intelligence and introduces the concept of Abundant Intelligences as an alternative framework. Drawing on Indigenous perspectives, the talk examines how intelligence emerges through relationships, community, and collective well-being rather than individual achievement. By presenting the origins, principles, and early directions of the Abundant Intelligences research program, Lewis reflects on how diverse communities can develop technologies that better reflect their values, ways of living, and visions for the future.
